The word Teppanyaki is derived from " Teppan" meaning iron hot plate and "Yaki" which means to grill or fry.
Teppanyaki cuisine is a modern Japanese style of cooking which involves cooking the meal on a hot-plate in front of the diner. Ingredients usually consist of meat or fish and vegetables and, as such, are very familiar to the western palate which makes teppanyaki cuisine very popular in the west.
Additionally the entertainment provided by watching the chef expertly prepare and cook the ingredients gives the diner a whole new dining experience and now this can be done at your home in your outdoor kitchen or if you prefer inside.
The hotplates can either be built in or of a portable variety and offer the opportunity of healthy delicious dishes that impress your guests. They can also be part of a purpose built table which means that guests can cook their own food to their own specifications allowing the host or hostess to relax and enjoy their meal too.
Teppanyaki cuisine became popular in America in the 1960s and only then became popular in Japan due to Americans visiting Japan expecting to eat Teppanyaki. It is a very exclusive dining experience in Japan due to only high quality ingredients being used.
Teppanyaki is cooked at 400ºC which means that all of the ingredients' natural flavours and nutrition are seared in. It is therefore essential to use only the best ingredients.
